Are you struggling with razor bumps on your face?
Thousands of men suffer from razor bumps on their faces. Razor bumps can go away on their own but if not treated properly they can cause permanent damage.
What causes razor bumps?
Razor bumps occur when curly hair gets stuck inside the hair follicles. Typically, the hair grows outwards but when the hair meets resistance from dead skin it curls back inside the pore.
What are the symptoms of razor bumps?
Red bumps are the main symptom of razor bumps, but other symptoms may include:
- Itching
- Pain
- Darkening of the skin
- Small papules (solid, rounded bumps)
- Pustules (pus-filled, blister-like lesions)
How to prevent razor bumps?
Use the following tips to help prevent razor bumps.
- Avoid shaving too closely.
- Shave in the direction of hair growth rather than “against the grain.”
- Use a non-irritating shaving cream.
- Use an electric razor.
- Avoid pulling skin while shaving.
- Reduce the frequency of shaving.
- Replace your razor frequently.
- Shave slowly and in short strokes
- Exfoliate with retinoids, glycolic or salicylic acids, or benzoyl peroxides to help clear the follicle opening.
- Shave every other day.
- Use an aftershave treatment.
What care some treatments for razor bumps?
There are some home remedies that you can attempt to use to help treat razor bumps.
Tee Tree Oil
Tree tea oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It opens your pores and loosens your ingrown hairs. It can help soothe the redness and inflammation as well.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera can also stop symptoms such as itchiness, redness, and inflammation while helping to keep the skin moisturized.
Exfoliating Scrub
Gently exfoliating the affected areas can help to clear away dead skin and prevent clogging of the pores.
